Despite being a local South Australian competitor and living less than a half an hour from the Murray Bridge Speedway Strathalbyn’s Daniel Pestka is a surprise addition to the Speedweek field. After committing to the racing throughout Victoria earlier in the season Pestka and the Stark Racing Team have changed their initial plans and will hit the road as a contracted team.
“I’m excited to get to the opportunity to race at home for the first couple of nights where we’ve had good speed and then on to the rest of Speedweek where we’ve had a few runs already this season. It was a hard decision not to race for the SRA Title instead, as they have rounds that clash with the first two nights of Speedweek. The rest of the guys were keen on running the SRA but I talked them out of it at the last minute” added Daniel with a smile when we spoke.
A bonus for the driver dubbed “The Strathalbyn Streak” is that he will also get the opportunity to stay at home and race on his Birthday, something that Daniel has for been able to do for well over a decade.
“I have been lucky that the Speedweek round at Murray Bridge always falls on my birthday. The date has never changed”.
Going into Speedweek Pestka has already recorded two podium results at tracks he will compete on having finished second in the Bill Wigzell Battle of the Bridge at the Murray Bridge Speedway and third during the SRA round at Warrnambool in early November. Last season Pestka was a feature winner at Murray Bridge.
Pestka has also raced at Avalon this season having finished 12th but he has been a feature winner at the venue in the past.
