Victorian Indy Rae put on a dominant display in the Formula 500s 65 Roses Championship event at Murray Bridge Speedway.
After winning the Preliminary Feature event on Night 1 of the championship, Rae would start off of pole position for the Jettco EFI / PMP Chassis Australia sponsored A Main, and drive superbly to take home the $6500 winner’s check.
In conjunction with Formula 500s South Australia, many thanks goes to the feature lap sponsors, with the event also raising much needed support and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis.
The main race however, got off to a premature start, with Rowdy Andeatta (Vic) bouncing into a tumble on the opening lap.
I. Rae would skip away on the restart, quickly racing ahead of Jackson Mclean (Vic) and Jordan Rae (Vic).
Boyd Chaffey (SQ) would also be contesting for the top 3, as the field quickly spread out, taking advantage of the full width of the racing surface, seeing some magnificent passing manoeuvres.
Further back there would be a great contest between Chad Bell (Vic), Jack Hewett (Vic), Terry Rankin (Vic), Corey Jones (SA) and Rusty Hickman (Vic), with drivers racing three wide as they jostled for position.
J. Rae would then move up into second, with I. Rae still out in front, before Hewett would collide with Jones on the main straight.
With I. Rae, J. Rae and Mclean now in third still clear out in front, Bell, Rankin and Hickman would continue their fantastic battle on the restart with slide jobs galore, before Rankin would run high into the fence.
Simon Reichelt (SA) then lost a wheel, seeing the drivers line-up to re-start with 15 laps to go.
I. Rae would again storm clear for several laps, with Nathan O’Shea (SA) then coming to a stop with 7 laps remaining.
This would not stop I. Rae’s momentum, who continued smoothly out front until the chequers, ahead of J. Rae and Mclean.
