Murray Bridge Speedway held their official Opening Night for the new race season over the weekend, with a great turn out across all racing divisions.

The competitors assembled on the infield at the start of the meeting, with a minute’s silence held for the recent passing of Rob ‘Wacka’ Stevens, who was the long term operator of fellow speedway race track in Waikerie, SA.

Racing then got underway, with nine events completed, with the Street Stocks out on the track for their first heat race of the MJS Street Stocks Series, before rain started to fall on the track.

While the Track Curator desperately tried to salvage the racing surface, the persistent inclement weather left the track too wet; and with further showers on the radar, the meeting was unfortunately declared a rain out.

The venue now looks forward to their next event this coming weekend, with a two night Sprintcar show on October 5 & 6;  Night 1 features the annual Bill Wigzell Battle of the Bridge, along with the Formula 500s King of the Bridge and Junior Formula 500s. Night 2 sees more Sprintcar action with the Australian Sprintcar Stampede, plus Speedcars and a Demolition Derby. Entries for the event can be viewed here –Nominations.

Racing kicks off at 6pm on both nights, with tickets on sale via www.speedwaytickets.com.au
