Release via Sprintcar Speedweek

Queenslander Ryan Newton put on a dominating display in front of an enormous crowd at Murray Machining & Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway tonight in winning the first round of the Brandt Sprintcar Speedweek.

Newton sped from the outside front row to claim the top spot from pole sitter Max Guilford where he was rarely challenged and never headed in the Nutrend Homes Q66 in the $10,000 to win 35-lap A-Main.

Newton sped home to take his first ever Speedweek win from Marcus Dumesny in second (who started seventh) and Brock Hallett (who started ninth) third, Lockie McHugh fourth (started third) and pole-sitter Max Guilford rounding out the top five.

It was Kiwi Max Guilford who drew the #1 position on the Dash redraw after looking speedy all night (scoring a heat win earlier in the night as well) and led into turn one for the 35-lap A-Main but Newton quickly rounded the NZ#1 up and opened up a sizeable advantage – at one point lapping up to ninth position and establishing as much as six-second lead.

Marcus Dumesny began on the fourth row with brother Matt but the youngest of the two ripped quickly into podium contention in the Tolmer Speedway #47 Maxim where at one point he tried for the lead from Newton down low in turn one and two.

A fierce battle broke out between Lockie McHugh and Brock Hallett in the battle for third with Hallett’s GW Racing Q5 eventually getting the honours in that war.

Brendan Quinn was an impressive sixth after coming from the inside of the seventh row of the grid whilst The Sticker Company Quick Time qualifier (in Flight Two) Todd Moule brought the D26 home in seventh ahead of Brendan Guerin in eighth, Ryan Jones in ninth and Daniel Storer coming home tenth.

Grant Anderson wheeled the V37 entry from eighteenth to eleventh and was able to overcome the disappointment of mechanical problems with his truck overnight that almost saw him miss the first night entirely.

South Aussies made up twelfth (Bradley Vaughan) thirteenth (Joel Heinrich) fourteenth (Ben Morris) fifteenth (Matt Egel) and sixteenth Glen Sutherland.

Tasmanian Ethan Wyllie picked up seventeenth ahead of Sydneysider Alex Attard eighteenth, Tasmanian Chris Johns nineteenth, Dylan Menz twentieth, Matt Dumesny (DNF) Peter Doukas (DNF) Dylan Jenkin (DNF) and Luke Storer DNS with a steering box issue.

The B-Main was won by Ethan Wyllie over Dylan Menz in second, Chris John third and Ben Morris claiming the final transfer position.

The Dash was won by Max Guilford from Ryan Newton, Lockie McHugh third, Todd Moule (fourth) Luke Storer (fifth) Brendan Guerin (sixth) then Marcus and Matt Dumesny.

Heat winners were Max Guilford, Brendan Guerin, Ryan Newton and Matt Dumesny.

The Sticker Company Quick Time in qualifying went to Todd Moule with an 11.540 in Flight One and Lockie McHugh in Flight Two with an 11.498.
