In only his fifth start in a Sprintcar Balhannah racer Luke Squiers drove to victory in the 360/LS Sprintcar main event on Saturday night at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway. In what was an impressive performance for the rookie Sprintcar driver, it was also an outstanding result for his entire team in general, as it was his debut appearance as a car owner after starting the season driving for the Michael Brown owned operation.

After winning both preliminary heat races Squiers started on the pole for the 25-lap finale but after losing the drag race into turn one he trailed early race leader Ryan Jones for the opening 16 laps, before the battle for the lead went wrong in turn two. As the duo raced for the lead Squiers slid Jones on the exit of the turn with the cars making contact, with the result being Jones crashing hard.

On the restart Squiers inherited the lead and went on to defeat Bailey Heinrich, who also recorded a career best finish. Horsham racer Thomas Baker enjoyed a great night as he rounded out the podium ahead of teenager Isla Rowett, debutante Tate Cowie, Hilton Rowett, and local Murray Bridge resident Brodie Somerfield.

Jones, Jack Will, and Simon Richards failed to make it to the chequered flag.

Earlier Squiers defeated Jones and Heinrich in the opening heat while Squiers ran down Jones and executed and outside pass for the lead to claim heat two. Baker would finish third ahead of Somerfield and Isla Rowett.

The 360/LS Sprintcars will be back at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway this Saturday night (March 21) for the $2300 to win Ross Wright Memorial.
